Make wicked beats with these simple techniques
-
First off open up your Fruity loops studio application(i´m using FL8, any FL with FPC will do the job) - make a new file, now lets get beating. In this tutorial Ive decided to make a DnB beat(its not awesome but it shows alot).
Step 1
Right click at your Step Sequencer and insert the plugin FPC.
Use the default settings and click your way to the Fpc DrumAndBass 49 preloop.Step 2
Now right click on the pattern to get into the piano roll of the loop, then
push Abc to see what is what in the loop (A kick, snare2, Pedal Hi hat and a Open Hi Hat)Step 3
Now hold down Ctrl + Left Mouse click and cover the kick piano roll bit.
Now use Ctrl + x to cut out the kick line.Step 4
Now go back to the Step sequencer and apply this kick to the Default Kick sample (Ctrl + V in the piano roll)The kick line will automatically get thrown into C3 so we need to cover it again and move it up to C5 to make it sound as it should.
Step 5
Now repeat step 3 and 4 until you get all the FPC piano roll lines into separate sample handlers and shown
Lets rest abit, push play and see what´s going on. Not awesome at all to be honest. But be patient, you will get there.
Step 6 ” The Conclusion”
Now lets go to the step sequencer again, left click Kick so you get into the channel settings.
Push (SMP >> Open sound file´s) here at Step 6, what i usually do is to use samples all over the place and combine them to make awesome beats. Because with the FL samples that they supply you can only do “that” much, so here are some serious sample sites to get your library up to date.So by using this basic and simple way to get patterns for your beats you can make awesome stuff i recon. Maybe combine a Country Kick line with reggea hits and then add DnB Snares and so on. Hope this tutorial was helpfull!! Have fun, cya next time dudes. I thought the steps were great, but do you really need to go to a media arts or music production school to make beats?
